As a Fan of Native American's contribution to Jazz I first saw Eddie Durham perform Guitar on a homemade Amplifier at the West End Cafe opposite Columbia University on Broadway in New York City. Afterward with the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band on Slide Trombone.

About Me

Born in 1954, introduced to jazz  in my early teens thru my cousin, who brought the Louis Armstrong album "Ambassador Satch" to our house. Since then listening to all kind of swinging jazz, preferable the styles from the late 20s up to the early 50s. Co-wrote a discography on Edmond Hall in 1980, wrote reviews for our local newspaper and co-organised the jazz festival at my home town in the early 80s. Have heard Eddie Durham (and secured an autograph) live once with the "Harlem Blues And Jazz Band". What an evening!

At the moment I´m doing some research on the history of the tune "In The Mood", which not only has a handful of predecessors, but also has inspired a lot of musicians, composers and arrangers to use it freely. A lot of sources say that Jerry Gray and Glenn Miller himself arranged the famous Miller version, others claim that it was Eddie Durham - so I´d love to bring some light into this case. My research will hopefully lead to an article or even more sometime.

About Me

I am a professional trombonist/violinist (and other instruments) in the Los Angeles area. Aside from being a big fan of Eddie Durham for all his acccomplishments, and being aware of his relative Allen Durham, who played trombone with Andy Kirk in the early days and also out here in L.A., I particularly want to reach out to other Eddie Durham fans for the following reason:

I have a studio test pressing or one/ off recording that I am sure is Eddie Durham, leading a recording group in the late 40's or very early 50's, possibly with Shad Collins on trumpet. There is no artist listed on the hand written label, which is issued from Hartnett Recording Studios in New York City. The 2 titles are Eddie's Boogie (uptempo) and Big Foot Blues (slow.) I am well aware of Eddie Durham's guitar style all the way from the Motens of 1929 -32 through the Luncefords in 35 and the Basies of 37-8 and Kansas City 5 and 6. This record is definitely Eddie Durham to me, and I'd like other afficianados to hear it. I'm thinking of posting it on youtube so others may enjoy what may be a very rare record. If its a test of what became a commercial record, I'd like to know that as well.

About Me

Hi fellas !

I'm just a beginning guitarist and I'm impressed by Eddie Durham's guitar playing. Especially on a record he did in the 70's where he was playing his 12 string guitar. I'd like to have more insight on his playing and composing.

Thanks
